Getting started with Billune — send your first invoice in 5 minutes
Billune is designed so a brand-new freelancer can create and send a beautiful, branded invoice on their very first day. Here's exactly how, step by step.
Most invoicing tools make you configure a company, set up tax rates, connect a bank, and only then let you send anything. We built Billune to invert that: you can create your first invoice, pick a beautiful editorial template, and send it to a client within five minutes of signing up — no card required, no verification email delay, no onboarding wizard. Payments and integrations can be turned on later, only when you actually need them.
The rest of this guide walks through the exact click path for a first-time user. Everything you set here (business profile, clients, items) becomes reusable — you'll never re-type your business address, your favourite retainer line item, or a repeat client's details again.
- 01
Sign up (60 seconds)
From the homepage, click Get started for free in the top right. Sign in with Google or create an account with an email and password. You'll land on the Dashboard immediately — no credit card, no verification email delay.
- 02
Add your business details
Open Settings from the sidebar. Fill in your business name, contact email, address, and default currency. Anything you enter here appears automatically on every future invoice — you'll never re-type it. If you're VAT- or GST-registered, drop your tax ID in here too; it renders on every invoice PDF automatically.
- 03
Set up your first client
Open Clients → + New client. Enter their name, email, and (optionally) company/address/tax ID. Saved clients are one-click on every invoice from here on. If you're migrating from Xero, Wave, QuickBooks or FreshBooks, use Settings → Bulk Import instead — you can bring all your clients in one CSV upload.
- 04
Create the invoice
Click + New Invoice in the sidebar. Pick the client from the dropdown → the snapshot auto-fills. Add one or more line items (description, qty, unit price). Totals recalculate live in the preview on the right — there is no separate 'Preview' button because the right pane IS the preview at 1:1 fidelity with the eventual PDF.
- 05
Choose a template
Switch to the Branding tab. Pick one of five templates (Modern, Classic, Minimal, Bold, Wave) and set an accent color. The right-side preview updates instantly. If you want the template to be more distinctive to your brand, open AI Studio and use Generate Style — Claude will suggest an accent palette, font pair, and template recommendation from a one-line prompt like "luxury minimal, cream and burgundy, editorial fashion feel".
- 06
Send it
Back on the Details tab, click Save in the header, then Send by email in the Actions panel. Your client receives a beautifully-designed email with the PDF attached and a Pay button if you've connected a payment gateway. You'll get an Opened badge in the invoice list the moment they open it — no separate tracking tool needed.
